There are plenty of bonafide Zelda games to get through if you’re after an ‘authentic’ fix, but they’re not all on Switch. While some might ape an art style or a mechanic, these games generally bring plenty of their own ideas to the table and offer a different spin on 2D or 3D Zelda.

You’ll frequently find them referred to as ‘Zelda clones’, which is somewhat uncharitable – especially when Breath of the Wild is so heavily inspired by other open-world games.
#Darksiders 3 max level series#
The bar set by games such as Breath of the Wild, Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past is exceptionally high, though, and it takes a particularly brave, bold developer to evoke the series and expect to benefit favourably from the comparison. Some of the following titles concentrate on one specific aspect and drill down on that - the dungeons, for example - while others take a more holistic approach and have a stab at building entire puzzle-filled kingdoms in two or three dimensions. Therefore, we’ve assembled a selection of games which have been influenced, to one extent or another, by the Zelda series in the hope of satisfying your cravings until the next entry.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was short and sweet, and Skyward Sword HD helped some, but we want more. Breath of the Wild’s open world lasted us longer than most, but we’re getting anxious for another action-RPG fix. A Zelda game is an event to savour, and the wait for the next entry can be tough. Tears of the Kingdom is coming, of course, but we need another hit. We’ve seen it all - and we went back to see it again in Labo VR - and now we’re looking for something else to scratch that Zelda itch. Inside is your Shard. In the years since we first ventured out onto the great plains of a truly open Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we’ve found all the shrines, defeated Calamity Ganon and scoured the kingdom for every last item and Korok seed. Use the Abyssal Chain to swing over to it. In the far, far west of Anvil's Ford there's a chest under a waterfall. Enter the door in the northeast corner and you'll come upon a chest with a Shard inside. In the main room, look for an Abyssal Chain grip point along the eastern wall.

Warp to the Crossroads using Vulgrim and enter the Library to the north. You will see the orange hook so use the Abyssal Chain to get up to the secret tunnel. From there just jump to the Demonic Growth and climb over to the cliff and look up. You can shoot the Goremaw directly across from you, then double jump to the rope and race to the left using either the jump key (space bar) or the left ALT. You don't have to get eaten by a Goremaw to get to the west side. You'll find a chest here with a Wrath Shard inside. Grapple this and then float into the secret tunnel above. You should be able to make out an Abyssal Chain grapple point high above. From the western ledge, look up and to the right. You need to cross this area to the west side, so jump out onto the rope and get eaten by a Goremaw. Enter the room with the Goremaws on the ceiling above a single stretch of rope. Head southwest and drop into the Ashlands Access Tunnel area. Warp to the Vulgrim location in the Ashlands.
